Inspired but not Sleepy

We are not sure if this is Max Greenhalgh splashing in the waves of San Diego but it looks hecka fun

[By Monica Harris]

It began as a solo project started by Max Greenhalgh and evolved into a 4-piece band with the addition of Bryce Outcault on guitar and keys, Zach Elliot on drums, and Ryan Linvill on tenor sax. And walah… Inspired and the Sleep was born.

The laid-back San Diegans create lo-fi mellow recordings that are easy to tap your foot to.

In creating the band name, Greenhalgh was “inspired” by insomnia, specifically, the “exciting, creative experience nurtured by late night anxieties” — as well as sleep .

But the songs are not sluggish. Most of the tracks the band has created are upbeat with powerful percussions.  On each track I listened to, the music is clean, crisp and strong, and Greenhalgh’s voice is pleasant, similar to Ben Folds Five. Be sure to check out Inspired and the Sleep and listen to their new track “Fly Low” and let us know what you think.
