Live Music Newz

What’s hot this week: Foxygen, Laluzapalooza, Jesse Thomas, Mika, Devious Means, Teddy Geiger, more…

Local OC-ers may have discovered the “Gypsy Den” sign hanging in the downtown Anaheim promenade. That’s right. The beloved Gypsy Den now has 3 locations. And this Anaheim location has an open mic every Wed at 8pm. So any and all burgeoning musicians can head on down to share your talents.  Anaheim Gypsy Den: 211 W Center St Promenade Anaheim CA 92805. (The Santa Ana location also holds an open mic every Thursday night. Signups at 7:30, music starts at 8:00 pm.)

La Luz De Jesus Gallery  will present its annual juried exhibition: LALUZAPALOOZA. This gigantic, no-theme show features works from many of the freshest and most relevant artists of our times. According to their website, over 15,000 individual images were submitted by commercial illustrators, graphic designers, tattooists, scenics, students, animators, outsiders and working gallery artists which were narrowed down to 220 pieces, featuring many names familiar to the readers of Juxtapoz and Hi-Fructose, along with undiscovered, emerging talent.  Join the gallery for their closing party: Saturday, March 30th 7:00-10:00 p.m., 4633 Hollywood Boulevard.

One of our favorite singers, Jesse Thomas will be playing the Hotel Café in L.A.  tonight March 26. See our interview with Jesse here where she talks about love, hardships and whiskey.

Wednesday, March 27, Mika performs at the El Rey Theater. Sorry, this show is sold out. (I know. We tried too.)

Sean Healy Presents Teddy Geiger live @ the House of Blues-Sunset, Friday, March 29 at 8:00 pm (doors at 7:00). Teddy Geiger then performs the following night March 30 at the Key Club. Fans helped support Teddy’s new album utilizing Pledgemusic with some of the proceeds going to Save the Elephants.

Foxygen (with Sam Flax and Wolf Thompson) perform at the Echoplex, Friday, March 29 at 8:30. Tix are sold out, but a limited amount may be available at the door. We are still attempting to get an interview with the band, so hold tight.

Devious Means (With The Lonely Wild & Future Fix) will be playing the Constellation Room @ the Observatory this Sat night, March 30 at 8:00 pm. Tix are on sale.  In our interview, the group says “music brings people together.”
